MEET PRICKLE & CO.: SIX LITTLE HEDGEHOGS WITH A LOT OF HEART

Mushroom hats, tiny books, a very ambitious bee costume. A new little corner of the internet understands exactly why we love novelty hedgehogs.

There is a particular sort of joy in finding a shop that takes your small, slightly specific enthusiasm seriously. You arrive expecting to have a quick look. Then there is a hedgehog in a mushroom hat. A second one is offering a daisy. Somewhere further down the page, another has apparently decided that being a hedgehog was insufficient and has dressed as a bee. The quick look starts taking longer.

That is the appeal of Prickle & Co., an exciting new site devoted to novelty hedgehog collectibles. Its current collection contains six named characters, organized into three pleasingly distinct groups: Woodland, Dress-Up, and Homebodies. It is a compact cast, but there is plenty of personality here. Each design has its own little joke, mood, or everyday pleasure tucked into it.

For a blog called For The Love of The Hog, this is rather irresistible territory. These are the sorts of decorative companions that make a bookcase feel personal, make a desk less severe, or turn a small gift into something that says, “I saw this and thought of you.” You can appreciate the whole collection without needing a huge display cabinet. One well-chosen little face can do a surprising amount for an ordinary corner.

A note from the blog: Prickle & Co. is a shop project from the owner of this blog, and this is a celebratory introduction to its collection. The images are the shop’s illustrations. Our comments concern the designs and published listings; check the shop for photographs, measurements, materials, condition, and current availability before buying.

THE FUN-GUY: THE MUSHROOM HAT WINS

    WOODLAND · AUD $28

Some designs explain themselves immediately. THE FUN-GUY is a cheerful hedgehog wearing an oversized terracotta mushroom cap, and the proportions are the whole delight. The hat is wonderfully excessive. Underneath it sits a small face that seems entirely comfortable with the arrangement. There is something very satisfying about a character that has clearly committed to its look.

The warm cap and woodland theme make this an especially appealing choice for a plant shelf or a corner with natural colors. Picture it beside a leafy houseplant, with enough clear space for the mushroom silhouette to stand out. You do not need to build an entire miniature forest around it. A single plant and a short stack of books would give it a lovely setting.

As a gift, the connection is easy to see: the friend who always notices mushrooms on a walk, the person with a fondness for woodland illustrations, or anyone who considers a slightly ridiculous hat an excellent addition to a day. It is cheerful without needing a complicated explanation. The name supplies a small groan-worthy pun, which only improves matters.

THE FUN-GUY is a great introduction to the shop’s sense of humor: an endearing animal, one strong idea, and just enough silliness to keep you looking. Find THE FUN-GUY in the Prickle & Co. collection.

DAISY DAYS: A VERY SMALL BUNCH OF FLOWERS

    WOODLAND · AUD $24

DAISY DAYS takes a gentler approach. This hedgehog holds a single daisy, and that simple gesture gives the design its sweetness. One flower is plenty. The illustration lets the white petals and bright center stand out against the character’s warm coloring, so the whole idea reads beautifully at a glance.

There is a lovely gift-giving thought in this one. Flowers often say thank you, thinking of you, or I hope your week gets better. A hedgehog offering a daisy borrows that familiar language and gives it an unexpected little face. It would make a thoughtful choice for someone who enjoys gardening, botanical prints, or the cheerful presence of flowers around the house.

We also like the way DAISY DAYS could sit quietly within a room. Try a clear spot near a pen cup, a framed photograph, or a vase, rather than burying it among lots of other small objects. The flower is the focal point. Giving it a little breathing room allows that detail to do its work.

At the lowest listed price in the current six-piece collection, it is also an approachable place to start browsing. The appeal, though, is the gesture: a tiny creature arriving with something nice to offer. Meet DAISY DAYS in the collection.

BUSY BEING CUTE: A HEDGEHOG WITH BEE AMBITIONS

    DRESS-UP · AUD $30

A hedgehog in a bee costume is an excellent premise. BUSY BEING CUTE follows through with happy stripes and tiny wings, turning a familiar woodland animal into a particularly enthusiastic participant in fancy dress. The sunny yellow gives this character an immediate lift, while the wings add a pleasingly unlikely finishing touch.

Of all six designs, this one feels especially suited to a workspace that could use a less serious resident. Set it somewhere visible beside your notebook and it can become a small visual interruption between tasks. The joke is right there: the little character appears very busy, and its main occupation is looking adorable. There are worse job descriptions.

This is also a lovely match for a person who enjoys playful clothes, cheerful accessories, or an unashamedly silly animal design. It has enough contrast and character to hold its own on a shelf, especially against a plain background. A yellow notebook or a small flower nearby could echo the palette without turning the entire area into a theme.

We love the sheer willingness of it. Being a hedgehog was already a strong starting point. Adding a bee outfit makes the whole thing gloriously unnecessary, which is precisely why it works. Take a closer look at BUSY BEING CUTE.

HOCUS POCUS: THE BOOKSHELF HAS A WIZARD NOW

    DRESS-UP · AUD $32

HOCUS POCUS is the theatrical member of the group. Its star-covered wizard hat and miniature wand give the hedgehog a complete little identity. The blue-and-gold combination in the illustration is particularly appealing: a proper storybook palette, with the warm face peeping out beneath all that magical ambition.

On a bookshelf, the connection would feel immediate. Fantasy novels, fairy tales, a well-loved illustrated edition, or even a stack of mysteries would make an inviting backdrop. Position the character toward the front of the shelf, where the hat and wand remain visible. Let the books provide the scenery. There is already plenty happening in the design itself.

It is easy to imagine this becoming part of a seasonal display, too. Autumn leaves or a small decorative pumpkin could bring out its playful side, while a few star motifs would suit it at another time of year. The character has enough personality to stay out long after any particular occasion has passed.

The best novelty designs give you a tiny story before you have read a description. HOCUS POCUS does exactly that. Here is a small wizard, apparently ready for something important, and we are quite happy to let it supervise the fiction section. Discover HOCUS POCUS in the shop.

TEA FOR ONE: THE COZIEST MEMBER OF THE CAST

    HOMEBODIES · AUD $26

TEA FOR ONE features a tiny hedgehog tucked into a peach-colored teacup. The illustrated cup has floral details, and the little face just above the rim is an especially good finishing touch. It is the sort of design that makes immediate sense to anyone whose favorite household ritual involves putting the kettle on.

What we like here is the snugness of the composition. The cup frames the hedgehog, giving the design a rounded, self-contained shape. It suggests a pause, a comfortable chair, and a few minutes in which nobody needs anything from you. That is a lot of atmosphere for one small decorative character.

A kitchen shelf or tea station would be an obvious home, but a reading corner could suit it just as well. Place it near the things you already enjoy using, so it becomes part of a familiar daily view. The display idea is about enjoying the motif; this is a novelty collectible, so treat the cup as part of the design and check the listing for practical product details.

For the tea lover who already has plenty of mugs, this offers a charming change of direction. The sentiment is still recognizable, but the hedgehog supplies the surprise. Find TEA FOR ONE among the Homebodies.

ONE MORE CHAPTER: PLEASE DO NOT DISTURB THE HEDGEHOG

    HOMEBODIES · AUD $29

Round spectacles. A tiny open book. An expression that suggests the afternoon is already spoken for. ONE MORE CHAPTER is a wonderfully direct tribute to reading, and it may be the easiest character in the collection to match to a particular person. You probably already know who would love it.

The glasses are a great detail. They give the face a studious little air, while the book makes the character’s occupation unmistakable. In the shop illustration, the warm cover also works beautifully with the hedgehog’s coloring. The result feels comfortable and absorbed rather than fussy.

This one belongs wherever books are actually enjoyed: beside the current reading pile, on a shelf near a favorite chair, or at a desk where someone keeps promising to stop work and read a few pages. It would also make a lovely companion to a book chosen as a gift. The book supplies the story; the hedgehog supplies the small, personal extra.

Paired with TEA FOR ONE, it creates a pleasing picture of an ideal quiet afternoon. On its own, it is just as effective. There is something hard to resist about a creature that appears to have found its favorite activity and settled in completely. Meet ONE MORE CHAPTER in the current collection.

A LITTLE COLLECTION WITH THREE DIFFERENT MOODS

One of the nicest things about Prickle & Co.’s opening lineup is that the categories feel useful. Woodland gives you the mushroom cap and the daisy, both rooted in the pleasures of the natural world. Dress-Up takes a more mischievous turn with a bee costume and a wizard’s outfit. Homebodies brings the pace down with tea and reading. These are three very recognizable ways to enjoy a little hedgehog.

That makes choosing a gift more personal. Think about a habit, a hobby, or the room where the recipient spends their happiest time. A committed reader has an obvious candidate. A friend who loves a cheerful visual joke might gravitate toward the bee. Someone whose shelves are full of plants might prefer a woodland character. You are choosing a detail that belongs to them, which is often what makes a modest gift feel so well judged.

For your own shelf, choosing one favorite is a perfectly good approach. If you like pairs, THE FUN-GUY and DAISY DAYS make a gentle woodland grouping, while HOCUS POCUS and ONE MORE CHAPTER could suggest a little story about an unusually eventful library. There is no need to collect in a prescribed order. The pleasure is in noticing which face you keep coming back to.

A FEW USEFUL DETAILS BEFORE YOU VISIT

The site lets you browse all six characters together, filter by collection, sort the listings, and save favorites while you compare. Product details open from the collection cards. It is a friendly way to get acquainted with the cast, particularly if your first choice changes as soon as you see the next hedgehog.

At the time of writing, the shop states that shipping is free within Australia only, with orders sent from Melbourne and dispatched within one week. Its published returns information says purchases can be returned within 30 days for a full refund, with the shop contacted to arrange the return. See Prickle & Co.’s shop information for the current wording and any updates.

The site also explains that the current images are illustrative and that real listings need their own photographs, measurements, materials, and condition notes. Those details matter when deciding what will fit your space or suit a gift, so check them with the shop rather than judging physical size or finish from an illustration. The prices in this feature are a snapshot of the six listings we viewed, and may change.

    MAKE A LITTLE ROOM

What makes this new site so appealing is the clarity of its idea. Six characters, each with a distinct personality, and a shared affection for an animal that already looks rather like a small, determined storybook hero. The names are playful, the illustrated designs are full of charm, and the collection leaves plenty of room for the individual favorites people will inevitably develop.

Perhaps yours is the reader. Perhaps it is the wizard. Perhaps you thought you were a sensible person until a mushroom-capped hedgehog appeared on your screen. There is no particularly sensible explanation required. Sometimes a small thing makes you smile, and finding a place for it is reason enough.

Visit Prickle & Co. and meet all six little characters. The difficult part is deciding which one gets the shelf space.
